The PCP Secretary General said this Sunday in Palmela that the measures announced by the government for the housing sector protect the interests of the banking and real estate sectors, but do not solve the problem of rent increases.
“The measures put forward by the Government, in addition to not solving the pressing problems that exist, in practice are also tax benefits, force the state to pay the bills and do not pinch any interest, that is, banking, speculation and real estate interests. ” said Paulo Raimundo.
“On all these aspects, PS, PSD, Chega and Iniciativa Liberal agree.
Following the example of what he said on Saturday, the 102nd anniversary of the PKP, in Lisbon, Paulo Raimundo confirmed this Sunday at the closing of the XI Assembly of the PKP Regional Organization in Setubal, held in Palmela, Setubal region, the idea that the PS , PSD, Chega and Iniciativa Liberal advocate the same policy.
“On February 15, the party spoke in the Assembly of the Republic with measures to protect housing, stop rent increases in installments, increase these very benefits,” said Paulo Raimundo, recalling that the proposals of the communists deserved to be voted against the PS and the Liberal Initiative, as well as the PSD and Chega abstained.
“How many people here on the Setubal peninsula are not suffering from this drama and are at risk of being left homeless, while the number of evictions today is already higher than those that existed at the end of 2019. How many people are unable to respond to rent and installment increases by increasing interest rates,” the Communist leader asked, seeking to emphasize the importance of the PKP’s proposals for solving housing problems.
For the communist leader, the successive increase in interest rates ordered by the European Central Bank (ECB) is a drama for thousands of Portuguese families, but is great business for Portuguese banks.
Paulo Raimundo also mentioned that the current reality in the country and in the world is characterized by the accumulation of profits by large economic groups, which contrasts with the hardships of workers and the population.
“This is the reality of every day for workers, prices are still rising, the cost of living is still rising, wages are still low and pensions are still low, poverty is still there, rents are still rising. , there are still difficulties and sacrifices,” he said.
The communist general secretary continued: “For economic groups, the profit remains, and political decisions depend on their interests and goals.”
“And we think that this cannot continue and that it is necessary to put an end to this theft,” concluded the communist leader at the end of the XI Assembly of the PKP Regional Organization in Setúbal.
