New Ford vehicles can drive to the showroom on their own, their air conditioner fails, they make annoying noises that can’t be turned off, or even lock their doors if the owner doesn’t pay the down payment. An American car company is trying to license a patent for a technology that allows it to remotely drive a car if it doesn’t receive installment payments on time.
According to an American newspaper New York Post, in addition to the above methods, the company can disable the automatic power window system and cruise control functionality. If the owner of the vehicle still does not pay the fee, Ford vehicles with semi-automatic or automatic driving functions can drive themselves to the dealership.
This technology will be used in the event that drivers ignore “vehicle-related late payment notices” that are sent to mobile phones or vehicle computer systems.
Ford filed a patent for “Vehicle Replacement Systems and Methods” in August 2021, but there is still no final approval.
When asked about it, company spokesman Wes Sherwood said they had “no plans” to introduce the technology and that it was just “one of many patent applications” the company filed regularly.
