The PSD president said this Saturday that the organization in Portugal that levies the most “exorbitant” emergency taxes on the Portuguese “was a socialist state”, predicting that this tax on companies would mean “a drop in the bucket”.
In his speech at the 1st Iberian Youth Summit organized by the Social Democratic Party Juventude (JSD) and the New Generations (NNGG), the youth organization of the Spanish People’s Party, Luis Montenegro ironically said that in the debate on the state budget, “It was touching” to see the prime minister and the government talking about a tax that would be applied to the extraordinary profits of certain companies, after first ruling out the possibility.
“Given some news that there are companies making huge profits, the Prime Minister hastened to say that he would impose a tax on the so-called extraordinary profits. But, my friends, the most extraordinary profit in Portugal was PS. , his government and central administration,” he criticized.
Luis Montenegro said he agrees that there should be social justice, but he predicted that this new tax on companies would be “a drop in the ocean of taxes” that he believes are being levied more on families, companies and institutions.
“This organization, which had extraordinary, exorbitant super-profits – not to mention the fact that many spoke obscenely – was a socialist state, a state that wanted to make money from the impact of inflation on the economy,” he insisted, saying that the PSD had already warned about this opportunity in April.
The PSD leader said that Costa even “pulled the rabbit out of the hat” in regards to also taxing distribution companies, not holding back: “He wanted to talk a lot about the rabbit, right”, in an implicit reference on many occasions to the name of the former prime minister Pedro Passos Coelho was mentioned in the budget debate.
“It would be good for Dr. Antonio Costa to say in Parliament: “I am a tax collector, I confess, I charge much more than I have already proposed to charge, or I return it in fairness and justice, or at least I have the decency to reduce the tax burden for the next year.” But this will not happen, and this budget also deserves leadership in this, because there is immorality in tax collection,” accused Montenegro.
