Ella’s encounter with music happened very early, as is customary in Cape Verde. He always sang at family parties in Santa Cruz, on the island of Santiago, as did his father, who played the guitar, and his mother, who participated in several music competitions. “The musical vein was always pulsating,” says the singer, who has performed in Praia in recent years. “I started singing in several venues such as Poeta, Alkimist, Freedom, Quintal da Música. For me it was a great school. Playing traditional Cape Verdean music is a great experience.”
To broaden her horizons, Ella came to Lisbon. Eight months later, he found Dino d’Santiago. “He invited me to join his band, which was also a great experience for me. Journey to other waters. Meanwhile, he invited me to participate in Madonna’s tour, Madame X, for incorporating the genre into my album. batuque. The singer has recorded with other artists such as Boddhi Satwa, Oma Nata, Branco or with the Guinean singer Remna and intends to continue with new musical experiences.
Ella’s concert is scheduled for March 18 at B.Leza in Lisbon. He will sing his original songs as well as some of the classical pieces he enjoys the most. The singer expects her concerts to be “evenings of partying and exchanging emotions.” He released the “Sina” theme in 2022: “I chose batuque to start my solo career. My single “Sina” is an electronic fusion batuque. I decided to bet on this style because I felt it was a challenge “after touring with Madonna and working on this genre with Dino d’Santiago,” says the singer, specifying that the song “Sina” tells about her first steps in about music, about courage, about flourishing, about not being afraid of what you have not seen, and about believing in what you have to give. “Metaphorically speaking, Sina means the cross. Something that you carry. The song has a double meaning. It is the love of my life, but also my cross.”
