South Korea announces world’s largest chip manufacturing center

South Korea is investing 300 billion won (€214 million) to build the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturing center in two decades, the industry ministry said on Wednesday.

The new center, which will be developed as part of a plan to improve the country’s competitiveness, will be built by 2042 with five state-of-the-art chip manufacturing plants and should house about 150 design companies as well as materials and components on the outskirts of the city. Seoul.

Yongin Municipality is 40 kilometers south of Seoul and already has Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, the world’s first and second largest “memory chip” maker, as well as several semiconductor factories and companies associated with the sector.
