According to a Council of Ministers decree dated March 2 but published this Wednesday in Diário da Republica, 39 million euros are earmarked for the maintenance of the Viana do Castelo-class ocean-going patrol ships and US Navy frigates. classes of Vasco da Gama and Bartolomeu Dias.
This does not include maintenance on the NRP Mondego patrol ship, which was not on a mission to escort the Russian ship on Saturday after 13 soldiers refused to board for security reasons.
According to a Council of Ministers decree signed by Prime Minister António Costa, the amount will be used to plan maintenance activities, “repairs and purchase of spare parts.”
“This planning can be focused not only on ships as such, but also on related integrated systems such as engines, combat sensors and weapons systems, various components, associated systems and subsystems,” the document says.
This decree states that “to ensure and operate the ships of the Navy, it is necessary to procure goods and services for 2023, 2024 and 2025, including “dock, intermediate and minor repairs, a shipyard necessary for work,” as well as “unexpected repair services one-time and urgent.
