Portugal and Spain open Center for Economics and Social Innovation in Guarda in April

In April, the governments of Portugal and Spain will hold a ceremony in Guarda to launch the Center for Economics and Social Innovation (CEIS), which will be located in this city.

The communiqué says that the governments of both countries agreed on Wednesday, during the 34th Portuguese-Spanish Summit in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, on bilateral cooperation in the implementation of CEIS, which will be located in the city of Guarda.

“Created by decree of December 21, 2022, CEIS is the result of a partnership between the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP), the António Sergio Social Economy Cooperative (CASES), the Portuguese Confederation of Social Economy (CPES), the Center for Iberian Studies (CEI) and the Social Security Institute (ISS)”, — stated in the message.

Also, according to the press release, from the Spanish side, CEIS can, in accordance with the terms of the signed agreement, “count on the cooperation of the General Directorate of Independent Work, Social Economy and Corporate Social Responsibility, the State Employment Service (SEPE) and the State Employment Training Foundation (FUNDAE)” .

The Spanish Government “will also facilitate the participation of organizations such as the Spanish Business Confederation of Social Economy (CEPES), the International Center for Research and Information in Public, Social and Cooperative Economics (CIRIEC) and the Spanish Schools of Social Economics. “, he added.

According to the aforementioned regulation, “increasing the value of the human resources of the social economy in terms of the qualification of workers, directors and managers through the development of advisory activities and technical support, as well as monitoring of young people and adults who, in a situation of unemployment, in order to ensure training in this sector of the economy, are some of the areas that should be explored at CEIS.”

The Guarda Polytechnic Institute (IPG) has announced that it will create a special training offer for all agents who will participate in the activities of the first CEIS in the country.

The training will involve four IPG schools and will focus on “youth at risk, retirement, digital skills, lifelong learning, healthy eating or caregiver education,” according to an IPG press release sent to agency in Portuguese.

Guarda Polytechnic President Joaquim Brigas said he believes the location of the new center in Guarda “will reinforce the social vocation of the city and its institution of higher learning, as the Center for the Central Region National Observatory of Aging already operates out of the Guarda Polytechnic Institute and leads European projects in this area”.
