The National Union of Civil Aviation Workers (SINTAC) and other organizations representing TAP were convened by Minister of Infrastructure João Galamba for a joint meeting where they were informed that the dismissal of the current CEO of TAP, still in office, follows legal procedures to effect the departure .
“The departure of the new CEO from SATA is already underway, so it is predicted that he will not take office until April 2023,” SINTAC said in a statement.
“On other issues, the minister expressed concern about the current restructuring plan, taking into account the process initiated by the negotiations on the company’s agreements aimed at achieving the desired social peace, since without addressing this factor, it becomes difficult to achieve goals. On this issue, SINTAC informed the Minister that, regarding the negotiations of agreements with companies, SINTAC has already submitted its proposal along with the created trade union platform, which represents a significant part of the universe of workers,” he adds.
The Minister told the audience that one of the main requirements in the privatization of TAP is to ensure that the “HUB” in Lisbon guarantees the strategic interests that the carrier represents. However, the union defends TAP, which is in the public domain.
On March 9, the infrastructure minister said the government wants the still executive president of TAP to end his functions “as soon as possible”, but it has not yet been decided who will lead before the arrival of the new CEO, in April.
