Mozambican businessmen believe that the visa-free regime will boost tourism and business.

CTA – The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique believes this Thursday that granting visa-free travel to citizens of 28 countries will boost tourism and investment, calling for greater coordination to make the measure effective.

“The tourism sector in Mozambique feels cherished by this measure. It is helping with the recovery from the coronavirus and is stimulating the sector,” CTA Tourism President Mohammad Abdullah told Lusa.

He added that the selected countries have a tradition of visiting Mozambique, so they are more likely to travel to an African country and attract more people.

“Measures of this kind [isenção de visto] it’s hard to accept,” so “30 days is more than enough for tourism and business visits,” he said, referring to the timing.

As for the barriers commonly reported at entry points to petty corruption by border guards, Mohammad Abdullah is optimistic about overcoming them, noting that the measure is the result of “commitment at the highest level.”

“As in everything, when we create a new mechanism or a new object, problems arise, but with coordination we understand that they will be overcome,” he stressed.

On the other hand, the operators of the tourism sector will “monitor” the implementation of the measure, as they are one of the main beneficiaries.

This week, the government decided to grant visa-free travel to citizens of 28 countries, including Portugal, as part of economic stimulus measures.

The measure is awaiting official publication.

In addition to Portugal, the approved list includes Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Côte d’Ivoire, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States of America.
