The Minister of Health said this Friday that he understands the doctors’ strike called by the National Federation of Physicians (FNAM), given that the strike is part of a civil service general strike and not for health sector reasons.
“I must respect and understand that we live in a democratic society, which one of the trade unions [CGTP] unable and unwilling to adhere to the agreement [de concertação social] and I have to understand the strike in this context of public service,” Manuel Pizarro told reporters on the sidelines of the opening of the Hospital de Lagos in the Algarve.
On Thursday, FNAM released a notice accompanying the public administration strike announced by the United Front on November 18, a week before the final vote on the state budget for 2023.
