The Union of Civil Aviation Pilots (SPAC) and TAP reached an agreement on some issues, namely the “ending the intention of collective layoffs”, after the company announced that it would hire more specialists this year.
The union structure said in a statement that SPAC management “defends the idea of needing to hire pilots, supported by TAP’s systematic frequency of referring to recent and dubious misinterpretations and interpretations of the Company Agreement to make a loss-making operation viable.” who drew.
Therefore, the union was not surprised when they said that “TAP will hire in 2023.”
“Therefore, and also because with the admission of new pilots legally limited only in a ‘layoff’ situation, situations of egregious injustice will again arise which, in addition to being immoral, are in our opinion unacceptable”, SPAC demanded that TAP “reinstate fairness to the contributions of the pilots, a class that maintained wage cuts compared to the rest of the workers.”
The union warned of the plight of the pilots, “who, despite being reinstated, are still subject to collective layoffs, as well as the youngest in the company, who will be deprived of their salaries as a result of the freeze on their careers. equal to those that are now included in it.
According to the SPAC, it is important to “highlight the company’s concession to better working conditions already made for other occupational classes, in line with more favorable expectations than it still holds for pilots.”
Therefore, “several meetings were held with the aim of restoring the purchasing power of the pilots without any compensation to the company, except for the work,” which they call “excellent.”
The union noted that this is a possible tentative agreement at a time when Executive President (CEO) Christine Urmier-Widener is leaving, but highlighted some measures, starting with “the termination of the intention of collective layoffs” and “the same measures have recently been applied to other professional classes” .
The SPAC also agreed on “a new allowance table from April with the option to revert to the previous model if this does not prove favorable to the pilots”, among other things.
The union, however, said that there is still much to be done, but believes that these measures will “significantly improve the situation of the pilots now.”
“SPAC is acting in good faith and will and wants to give a vote of confidence to the new CEO. [Luís Rodrigues]who will be nominated shortly, believing that he will do everything to reverse the sense of devaluation of our profession,” he said.
Measures will be presented at the next SPAC meeting.
