The PSD president said this Sunday that António Costa’s government “has a stigma and a seal: impoverishment”, adding that “this is exactly the opposite of what the country needs.”
In a speech that lasted almost half an hour, Luis Montenegro took the opportunity to criticize the socialist executive in all areas, starting with poverty. “This country talks too much about poverty. Unfortunately, because this is the picture that we have ahead of us,” he said, leaving a guarantee for the future, in case the SDP becomes the government. “In the future, we want to talk about wealth. Our goal is to enrich Portugal and each of our fellow citizens.”
Luis Montenegro also accused Antonio Costa of being the “record holder in collecting tax revenues”. “Never before have so many taxes been collected in Portugal as now,” he said.
But the leader of the Social Democrats went further and stressed that poverty in the country is not only at the economic level, but also in the healthcare sector. “At the same time, it has never been so difficult to access the most important and necessary thing in our lives: health. Today, there are more than one and a half million Portuguese in Portugal who do not have a family doctor. Many want to get into the emergency service, but it is closed. Take the case of the woman who visited four clinics and ended up giving birth 140 kilometers from home. A country that has this inability to respond is a poorer country,” he criticized.
Montenegro also took the opportunity to issue two warnings. One for the party, one for the street. “It is necessary that the PSD be active, energetic and firmly assume its oppositional role. I said it and I say it again: we are not going to give the IU rest,” he said. “If they want to try to silence us or soften our energy as opposition, they will knock on another door. We’ll be here every day.” No
PSD Demands All Explanations in Camigna Case
This Sunday, the SDP leader commented on an interview with Assistant Secretary of State de Costa and former President Camigna and assured that “the SDP will definitely fulfill its task of oversight and control.” “We demand a full explanation,” he said. Montenegro stated that “The Secretary of State shouldn’t complain about being on the news, he should complain about what he did and what he didn’t explain.”
