BE demanded a hearing from 25 members of the TAP inquiry committee, including Finance Minister Fernando Medina and former rulers Pedro Nuno Santos, Joao Leao, Mario Centeno and Antonio Pires de Lima.
The party proposing a parliamentary commission to investigate the political tutelage of the TAP leadership has placed airline CEO Christine Urmier-Widener and former administrator and former ruler Alexandra Reis at the top of the hearing list, according to a request that Lusa had access to.
The blockers also want to hear from TAP financial administrator Gonzalo Pires and chairman of the board of directors Manuel Beja, as well as Luis Manuel Martins from TAP’s compensation committee.
From the government’s perspective, BE wants to hear from former infrastructure minister Pedro Nuno Santos, who resigned at the end of 2022 due to the “public perception and collective sentiment generated” by the TAP case and the compensation paid to Alexandra Reis, and former Secretary of State Hugo Mendez. as well as the former chief of staff of Pedro Nuno Santos, María António Barbosa de Araujo.
The current chief of finance, Fernando Medina, and former ministers with this portfolio, Joao Leão and Mario Centeno, are also on the list, as well as former finance minister Miguel Cruz.
Antonio Pires de Lima, former Minister of Economy, Sergio Monteiro, former Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications, and Pedro Marques, former Minister of Planning and Infrastructure, are other individuals with government responsibilities that BE wants to hear from Parliament.
BE also requires hearings from the law firms SRS Advogados and Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados, and former airline shareholders Humberto Pedrosa and David Neeleman.
The blockers also demanded a hearing on the case of Diogo Lacerda Machado, a former non-executive director of TAP, and representatives of several unions associated with the airline’s activities.
On 3 February, the BE’s proposal to establish a commission of inquiry into the political oversight of the TAP leadership for a period of 90 days was approved in Parliament, with PS and PCP abstaining and the rest voting in favor of the parties.
The text, approved without votes against, establishes a parliamentary commission of inquiry “under the political control of the TAP leadership”, which, in particular, between 2020 and 2022 will focus on investigating the entry and exit of the former ruler Alexandra Reis and guardianship responsibilities in the decisions taken.
The parliamentary inquiry into TAP is being chaired by socialist Jorge Seguro Sánchez, whose first vice president will be SDP deputy Paulo Ríos de Oliveira and whose second vice president will be Chega Filipe Melo.
