The general secretary of the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) this Wednesday acknowledged the suspension of strikes caused by the platform of the nine trade union organizations, but reiterated that the decision is subject to negotiations and “is in the hands of the Ministry” of Education.
“What we hope for is that the ministry gives us reasons why this fight plan should not be implemented, and it can only give us reasons with the positions that arise in the meetings,” said Mario Nogueira.
Speaking to reporters at the entrance to the Ministry of Education, which is once again accepting trade union organizations, the trade union leader did not rule out the possibility of suspending the planned strikes until the end of the school year, considering that this is the goal currently called.
At a time when new negotiations are to begin on various topics, the calendar of which will be determined at today’s meeting, Mario Nogueira said that the implementation of the struggle and strikes “is more in the hands of the ministry than in the hands of unions and teachers.”
Starting Monday, strikes will begin for overtime, overtime, the non-academic component, and each teacher’s last school period. New county strikes are also scheduled for April 17 to May 12, a nationwide strike on June 6, and end-of-year assessments.
Regarding the meeting with Minister Joao Costa, which started at 9:30 am, that is, about half an hour late, Mario Nogueira said that he did not have specific expectations, referring to the fact that it was a meeting before the negotiations, and therefore he waited offers. out of care.
On the table is the task of correcting the asymmetries created by the career freeze and disparity in the reduction of the teaching component of teachers in unified training, the reduction of bureaucracy in schools and the streamlining of connections between higher and specialized technical specialists.
On the first item on the agenda, Fenprof’s general secretary emphasized that correcting the asymmetries involves the full restoration of seniority, which is one of the main requirements of teachers, under pain of “correcting some asymmetries and deepening others.”
Also at the entrance to the Ministry of Education, the national coordinator of the Union of All Educators (STOP) expressed regret that the guardianship had not communicated to the organizations before the first meeting the proposals to be discussed.
Regarding the ongoing strike called by the union, André Pestana said that STOP is “available for anything” but reported that teachers claim they cannot stop now.
“During a round of negotiations, it was said that it was not worth fighting, and this proved that it was so,” the union leader defended.
