Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will have a new “strongman” in the security service. for what CM It has been determined that Superintendent Luis Carrillo of the PSP will become the next head of security for the President of the Republic and will take up his duties from next month.

For the past four years, Luis Carrillo has been the United Nations Police Adviser responsible for coordinating all of the organization’s peacekeeping missions at UN Headquarters in New York, USA. But the Palacio de Belen, the president’s official residence, is a place the PSP official knows well. From 2006 to 2009, Luis Carrillo was the head of security for then President Cavaco Silva.
In his 36 years in the security forces, the 56-year-old PSP officer has amassed an extensive international training program in peacekeeping missions, mostly in countries in conflict.

Between 2014 and 2016, Luis Carrillo led the UN peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic after the country plunged into civil war following a coup d’état in 2013. He has previously performed similar roles in Haiti, Timor-Leste, Bosnia and other countries. In Portugal, in addition to several functions, he was the commander of the PSP personal security corps. In recent months, the name of this official has also been mentioned as one of the strong candidates for the post of national director of the PSP.
