The eastern line is closed this Friday in the Elvas (Portalegre) area after a car collided with a train, resulting in serious injuries, Civil Protection said.
A source from the Alto Alentejo Subregional Emergency and Civil Protection Authority told Lusa that the alarm was raised at 13:48, the accident occurred on the eastern line, at the Ponte das Ortas railway crossing, in Uniao de Freguesias de Caia , San Pedro and Alcasovas.
The same source added that there were no injuries among the passengers on the train, and the severely injured 50-year-old driver of the vehicle was transported by helicopter from the National Institute of Emergency Medicine (INEM). ) to the inpatient department.
A source at Alto Alentejo’s sub-regional emergency and civil defense department also added that train traffic had been suspended.
The rescue operations involved 16 operators assisted by six vehicles, including an ambulance (IVS) from Elvas and an INEM helicopter.
