According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), nine municipalities in the district of Faro pose a very high risk of rural fires this Wednesday.
The municipalities of Aljezur, Lagos, Monchique, Portimão, Silves, Lole, Tavira, San Bras de Alportel and Castro Marim are in very great danger.
IPMA has also placed about 30 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Beja, Setúbal, Lisbon, Castelo Branco, Guarda, Viseu, Bragança and Vila Real at high risk for rural fires.
The fire danger defined by IPMA has five levels, from minimum to maximum.
Calculations are made based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and precipitation over the past 24 hours.
IPMA predicts mostly cloudy skies on the continent this Wednesday, gradually becoming very cloudy on the north and central coasts from mid-afternoon, and generally light rainfall on the Minho and Douro coasts from late afternoon.
The forecast also indicates light to moderate winds from the south quadrant, strong in places with gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour in the highlands of the North and Center, a slight increase in minimum temperature and a slight decrease in maximum temperature on the North and Central coast.
Minimum temperatures will range from 7 degrees Celsius (in Bragança) to 15 (in Faro), while maximum temperatures will range from 20 (in Viana do Castelo) to 29 (in Évora, Beja and Santarém).
