The Cape Verdean prime minister this Wednesday singled out the International Criminal Court (ICC) as a “necessary regulator” but ensured the country would not have to comply with the Russian president’s arrest warrant as he believes Vladimir Putin will not visit Cape Town. Verde.

In his speech at the summit, which will end on Thursday, the Prime Minister of Cape Verde stressed that “democracy requires limits on power, control of power and credible and reliable electoral systems.”
“Justice strengthens democracy. It strengthens democracy as a factor of “checks and balances” and, ultimately, guarantees the credibility of the election results,” he stressed.
He added that justice is “an important factor in the prevention and fight against corruption”, which “protects and guarantees the rights of citizens” and “which has a positive impact on joint security in the fight against transnational crime.”
“In all these parameters, Cape Verde occupies a good regional African and international position. We are a liberal constitutional democracy with good governance, low levels of corruption and robust shared security. Through legal aid, legal information for society and mediation, Cape Verde guarantees justice for all citizens,” he added.
For Ulisses Correia e Silva, Cape Verde is paying “special attention to the most vulnerable” by implementing “child-friendly justice” and combating gender-based violence.
“The law on crimes of aggression, abuse and sexual exploitation of children and adolescents has been tightened. The theme of human rights and social peace is reinforced in schools. Gender-based violence in Cape Verde is a public crime. , victim protection and police and judicial action,” he said.
“Last but not least, we are faced with the task of reducing the slowness of justice. A challenge that needs to be addressed, namely to support the digital transformation of the administration of justice.
