Julian Knight: Conservative MP acquitted by police on sexual assault charges

Conservative MP Julian Knight was acquitted by police on a serious charge of sexual assault.

Mr. Knight, the defense attorney who chaired the media, culture and sports committee, has consistently denied the allegations made last October.

In a statement, Mr Knight said: “The fact is that the police have never had to investigate anything. This was the only, false and malicious accusation originally made against them by third parties, each with their own clear motives for doing so.

“By publicly mentioning me in connection with the accusation, the office of the Conservative Whip acted shamefully and against natural justice by depriving me of my anonymity. Your actions have tarnished my name and caused immeasurable damage to my reputation.”

He added: “Had the police taken the simple step of questioning me thoroughly from the start, they would have seen that the accusation was false and outrageous. Instead, they waited four months without speaking to me once before they decided they had nothing to investigate.

“I had to prove my innocence through public statements and letters to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Chief of Staff. It can not be true.

“Now I intend to use all available legal means to prosecute those in Parliament and outside of it involved in bringing these charges against me.

“In the meantime, I look forward to the immediate return of the conservative stick so that I can once again represent my constituents on behalf of the party they voted for me for.”

In December, the Conservative advocate was stripped of his cane and resigned from Parliament pending a decision on the issue.

Mr Knight, who has represented Solihull since 2015, said he was looking forward to the “immediate return” of the party platoon.

Last month, Mr Knight complained to Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley about the prosecution’s review, writing to the police chief calling the investigation “misguided and fundamentally unfair.”

The Met and Conservative Whips office was contacted for comment.
