Former TAP director Alexandra Reis, the protagonist of a controversial half-million-euro settlement that led to a government reshuffle and acquittal of company presidents, will be heard this Wednesday in a commission of inquiry.
Alexandra Reis is the fourth person to be heard by the Left Bloc-initiated Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the Political Oversight of the TAP leadership, after the General Inspectorate for Finance (IGF), the company’s financial administrator, Goncalo Pires, and the executive chairman, Christine Urmier-Widener.
Chosen by Finance Minister Fernando Medina as finance minister, Alexandra Reis is the protagonist of a controversy that began on Christmas Day when Correio da Magnan revealed that the then minister had received compensation of around 500,000 euros for early departure. TAP guide.
The case led to the resignations of then-Infrastructure Minister Pedro Nuno Santos and Secretary of State Hugo Mendez, as well as Alexandra Reis herself, who had been in government for less than a month.
Alexandra Reis was called by the commission of inquiry as a former administrator of TAP, a former chairman of the board of directors of NAV Portugal – Navegação Aérea, where she moved after leaving the airline, and a former finance minister.
In a written statement sent to Lusa in December, Alexandra Reis said that the termination agreement “as an administrator of companies in the TAP universe” and the annulment of her “employment contract with TAP SA requested by TAP, as well as its public communication, has been agreed between the legal teams both parties, who are charged with ensuring that best practices are implemented and that all legal requirements are strictly observed.”
Following an IGF review that found serious flaws in the withdrawal agreement between TAP and Alexandra Reis, the government decided to acquit executive president and chairman of the board of directors Manuel Beja, who will be heard by a commission of inquiry. next week.
