The chairman of TAP’s board of directors said on Tuesday that he was aware of the existence of the status of state manager, but not of the consequences of dismissal, like Alexandra Reis, and that if he knew, he would not have signed the agreement.
“I knew about the existence of the status of the state manager, I did not know what consequences this had for the decision to terminate, if I had known, I would not have signed the agreement. Knowing this, I would use the status of public administrator to ensure that the departure of administrator Alexandra Reis does not happen,” Manuel Beja said in response to Communist MP Bruno Diaz in the TAP commission of inquiry.
At a hearing that lasted over six hours, the “chairman” explained that the first interpretation was that the €500,000 compensation to Alexandra Reis was authorized under said law in such a way that “one of the most famous law professors in the country said a million and a half [de euros]”, originally requested by a former administrator, “may be due to”.
