IL states that the Investigative Committee of the TAP confirms the deterioration of the political situation and is in favor of early elections

Liberal Initiative (IL) President Rui Rocha said this Thursday that TAP’s investigative committee is showing more and more “very worrying signs” and recalled that the party has been advocating early elections since January.

“We have an absolute majority (PS) that has shown itself to be completely incapable of governing the country, we have very troubling signs of the deterioration of the purchasing power of the Portuguese, we have signs of permanent political instability and now we have, with the TAP commission of inquiry, clear signs that state intervention has harmed the company’s own interests, with promiscuity, political interference, immaturity of management,” said Rui Rocha.

For the liberal leader, “all the signs, in fact, are of great concern in terms of running the country as a whole, in terms of managing state-owned companies, public services.”

“Everywhere we look we see inefficiency, we see lack of service, we see incompetence. And all this obviously worries IL very much, ”he added.

Rui Rocha spoke to reporters at the end of his visit to the Lisnave shipyard in Setúbal, a company he pointed to as an example of how to work, invest, increase productivity and competitively pay workers in a time of great hardship for many Portuguese.

The Setúbal ship repair company, which is in a good moment and has a 12-month order book, will distribute part of the profits this year to its 500 employees – two to three salaries each.

Faced with the fears of former President of the Republic Cavaco Silva, who said on Tuesday that the political situation in the country, which he already classified as “very dangerous” about two months ago, has since deteriorated much more than expected, Rui Rocha said he shared those same concerns, noting that IL had already submitted a no-confidence vote to the government and that it was in favor of holding early elections.

“We already thought it was bad. And the TAR investigation commission, for example, shows that it is even worse than we imagined. country and which is absolutely harmful to the interests of the country,” the leader of the IL said.

“The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, obviously has his own political assessment, but IL believes that we should look at the situation in the country. And I just discussed the situation in the country. degradation of public services, political degradation, immaturity, I would even say childishness, in what the state does, namely in a company like TAP. These are obvious signs,” added Rui Rocha.

Answering journalists’ questions, the leader of the IL admitted that there were no contacts with the Social Democratic Party in order to form a right-wing majority, an alternative to the current socialist majority, but he believes that “The President of the Republic will only consider that this alternative exists.” when the PSD and IL can form a government without the need for support from other parties.

“The interpretation I give is that the President of the Republic will consider that there is an alternative, when the IL and the SDP will be able to present a solution to the country without populist parties. What I can say is that IL does whatever it is, it does its job, it offers solutions for the Portuguese and presents a vision of the country that is completely different from that offered by António Costa,” he said.

“And we hope that the SDP will also be able to announce its presence at the right time. IL will play its part, which is to prevent the vices of the central bloc from perpetuating power in Portugal,” added Rui Rocha, assuring that IL wants the country to “get off the radar, clientelism, nepotism, incompetence.”
