Defense Minister Elena Carreiras confirmed in Brussels that Portugal will take part “up to 20 soldiers” in a European Union (EU) military training mission for the Ukrainian army officially launched on Tuesday.
Speaking at the conclusion of the meeting of EU defense ministers, the minister, who had already said earlier this month that Portugal should participate in this mission of military assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine with “about two dozen soldiers”, indicated that the Mission is currently planned among 27 people, but indicated that Portugal had already identified preferred training areas and confirmed the expected participation of up to 20 soldiers.
“We analyzed the new EU mission to support Ukraine, the military assistance mission, the training in which we are moving forward in the relevant organization. Portugal will take part in up to 20 military personnel who will train Ukrainian soldiers,” he said.
