TAP Reference Commission: deputies heard the chairman of the commission on remuneration today

This Wednesday at 17:00, the airline’s commission of inquiry will hear the chairman of the TAP remuneration committee, who will explain the compensation of half a million euros to former director Alexandra Reis.

Thiago Aires Mateus is the seventh person heard by a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the political oversight of TAP’s governance, set up at the initiative of Bloco de Esquerda after a controversial half-million euro compensation to former administrator Alexandra Reis. who has already made the “fall” of a minister, two secretaries of state, an executive president (CEO) and a “chairman” (chairman of the board of directors).

The Chairman of the Compensation Committee should also be asked about the bonus that former CEO Christine Urmier-Widener would be entitled to if she met the objectives of the restructuring plan, which, according to Jornal Económico, could be as high as three million euros.

Thiago Aires Matheus should also be asked to explain why the management contracts between the TAP administrators and the state were not signed, which is a condition for the payment of bonuses.

In early February, Infrastructure Minister João Galamba assured in statements to journalists in Castelo Branco that “the state is a good person” and will fulfill what was agreed on the bonus for the TAP president if the company’s restructuring process goes well.

However, on March 6, Galamba and Finance Minister Fernando Medina announced the dismissal, for good reason, of Urmier-Widener and chairman of the board of directors, Manuel Beja.

On March 21, with the presidents still in power, TAP reported a profit of €65.6 million in 2022, and the plan called for TAP to still incur losses in 2022 and only return to profit in 2025.
