Ultramarathoner disqualified for using car in race

Scottish ultramarathoner Joasia Zakrzewski, 47, has been disqualified from a race in Manchester, England for using a car during the race.

According to BBCJoasia Zakszewski finished third in the 80km Ultras 2023 GB race from Manchester to Liverpool, but he is estimated to have driven over four kilometers by car. The discovery was made after it was revealed using GPS mapping data that Joasia Zakszewski had traveled over 1 mile in just one minute and 40 seconds.

A friend said that the athlete became ill and regretted the inconvenience caused. The case was referred to UK Athletics, the organization responsible for mountaineering in the UK.

According to the same source, GB Ultras race director Wayne Drinkwater said that after the ultra marathon, he received information that the runner had gained a “competitive and unsportsmanlike advantage during part of the event.”
