Three students involved in the Lisbon Student Climate Strike movement showed their tails during the Socialist Party’s 50th anniversary ceremony this Wednesday in protest against the climate. They wrote the word “Occupy” on their buttocks.
Young people between the ages of 21 and 23 said that “PS should not be celebrating, but rather making a plan, consistent with climate science timelines, to end fossil fuel use and start a just transition for people.” in a statement released by the Climate Strike front in Lisbon.
The protest action takes place a week before the start of student classes at ten schools and universities in the country and three weeks before the action to block the gas terminal in Sines.
“Governments have long been throwing our future into the garbage of a burning planet, and we know they will continue to do so because they are driven by profit. We must put our future in our hands and fight for it. ., him,” said the students.
The protest comes a week marking the 30th anniversary of a historic protest in which students showed their tails saying “Unpaid” to the then education secretary against higher tuition fees.
From April 26, schools will be occupied in Lisbon, Coimbra, Faro and Porto. The goal is to claim “fossil fuel-free by 2030” and “100% renewable and affordable electricity by 2025 for all families”.
On May 13, an action organized by the Parar o Gás platform is planned at the liquefied natural gas terminal in Sines.
