Stop Offering Rejection of the Stability Program

Chega submitted a draft resolution to parliament rejecting the Stability Program as it fails to fulfill “the basic duty of overcoming the hardships that the Portuguese are currently facing”.

“The government will bring the discussion of the Stability Program for 2023-2027 to the Assembly of the Republic on Wednesday. This is a Stability Program that aims to reduce the public debt, guarantee healthy public accounts, but fails to fulfill the primary duty of meeting the hardships that the Portuguese are experiencing today,” President Chega defended.

At a press conference at the party’s national headquarters in Lisbon, André Ventura announced that “on Friday, Chega submitted a proposal to parliament to reject the Stability Program” and asked that it be discussed on Wednesday, along with the government’s proposal.

“The refusal does not have the political purpose of overthrowing the government, it is simply a sign that this is not the right path in terms of economic and fiscal policy that the government should follow,” he said.

Leader Chegi called on parliamentarians to support this initiative by giving “a sign of unity in the rejection of the Stability Program.”

“We hope that the right can unite in this rejection to also send a signal to the president of the republic and the country that we have an alternative, and that our alternative already begins with the rejection of the PS economic policy,” he said. indicated.

André Ventura argued that “this Agenda of Stability can be presented in any context and at any time, it would even have its merits in the normal context of political and economic normality, but when people feel the greatest drama of inflation, perhaps in their lives, difficulties in buying food, which zero VAT has not alleviated when companies are struggling with investment and unemployment is rising”, he should answer “three main problems”.

And he listed: “low wages to avoid exacerbating the income crisis we are experiencing, the return of money to families and companies that the state received through inflation, and the reduction of the tax burden, which remains at historically high levels.”

President Chegi also believed that the government was “resisting and hesitant to return the nine billion euros it received with inflation” and defended the existence of “the historical hypothesis of lowering the tax burden”, defending “a significant reduction in the level of VAT”. and IRC.
