The inflation rate decreased by 1.7 percentage points and stopped at 5.7% in April.

The annual rate of change for the Consumer Price Index (CPI) fell to 5.7% in April, down 1.7 percentage points from March, according to a quick estimate released this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

According to INE, “Based on the information already collected, the rate of change in the consumer price index (CPI) on an annualized basis will decrease to 5.7% in April 2023, down 1.7 percentage points (p. from the previous month.”

As for the core inflation indicator (the total index excluding unprocessed food and energy), in April it registered a change of 6.6% (7.0% in the previous month).

INE adds that the average change over the last 12 months was 8.6% (up from 8.7% in the previous month).

Portugal’s Harmonized Consumer Price Index (HICP) recorded a year-on-year change of 6.9% in the month under review, compared to 8.0% in March.

INE notes that final IPC data for April 2023 will be released on May 11.
