IL criticizes government for ‘waiting list’ for tax cuts

This Monday, the IL leader slammed what he sees as the government’s tax cut waiting list and faltering policy of support packages, defending tax cuts, especially the work tax.

“I would say that just like we have health care waiting lists, endless waiting lists, now the government wants to run waiting lists that are also long, one year, two years, three years, four years for tax cuts. “It’s the government’s queues for everything,” he said.

The party leader argued that, on the contrary, “The Liberal Initiative does not expect and wants the Portuguese to have more money in their pockets so that they can freely make their choice.”

He points out that the fact that Finance Minister Fernando Medina indicated in the Stability Program that the executive will proceed with the release of the IRS in the amount of two billion euros by 2027 is questionable.

“But the problem is what was received in the years that are behind. And, therefore, there is an expected tax cut of two billion over four years, in the IRS, but in recent years they have already charged another three billion,” he said. .

For Rui Rocha in Portugal “a very high tax burden”, so the proposals of the liberals “go for it”: “All measures to reduce taxes are very important, namely the tax on Portuguese labor,” he said.

During the discussion of the state budget for 2023 (OE2023), IL proposed a cap rate of 14.5% for salaries that reach 2,000 euros gross, which was “failed” and which the party is now recalling on one of the “billboards”. .

According to IL, for example, in the current table, 1,592 euros are deducted from a monthly gross salary of 1,000 euros, while with a flat rate, 1,435 euros are deducted from it, and 5,591 per annum are currently deducted from a gross salary of 2,000 euros and will be deduct 3465 euros.

“When people get raises in their jobs, in their companies, they later find out that a very large part of those raises are passed on to the government, whether in social security contributions or in terms of labor taxes, and therefore this problem that we we see face to face with Portuguese society,” he said.

According to the leader of the IL, “one should not shoot too much – which is what happens – and then carry out a distribution policy and distribute in accordance with the polls, which are the needs of the PS.”

“We saw the leadership of the socialist government, which is distributing parcels.
