The Service for Foreigners and Border Guards (SEF) has provided temporary protection to more than 50,000 citizens of Ukraine and foreigners living in Ukraine since the beginning of the war in the country.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the SEF says that out of 58,570 temporary protection measures, 34,421 have been granted to women and 24,149 to men. Minors make up a total of 14,218 and are divided into two categories: accompanied and unaccompanied.
“The municipalities with the most temporary protections granted continue to be Lisbon (12,088), Cascais (3,832), Porto (2,931), Sintra (2,001) and Albufeira (1,466),” the statement said.
When Ukrainians arrive in Portugal, a special mechanism for authorization of a residence permit is activated – the title of temporary protection. This lasts one year and gives access to various services in the country, including the National Health Service.
