PS reacts to the political crisis: “What the right fears is the good governance of the country and its obvious results”

PS Deputy Secretary General Joao Torres reacted this Wednesday to the country’s political crisis following the controversy surrounding Infrastructure Minister Joao Galamba, whose resignation was not accepted by Prime Minister António Costa. The President of the Republic said that he did not agree with this decision, and this morning the leader of the SDP, Luis Montenegro, again insisted on the resignation of the minister.

“What the right fears is the good governance of the country and its obvious results,” said Joao Torres.

The MP starts by saying that the prime minister has not turned his back on the country and ensures that the Portuguese can count on the full attention of the government.

Regarding the accusation of the PSD of opportunism towards the government, João Torres ensures that “the PS does not become a victim because it is the standard of stability in our country.” But the MP went further and highlighted Luis Montenegro’s inability and disorientation to present himself as an “alternative”.

The Deputy Secretary General of the PS says that the relationship between António Costa and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa “should not be permanently regulated by agreement” and explains that under a democratic regime “it is important that everyone respects the decisions of every agent. It is in the logic of mutual respect that a mature and solid democracy.”

“What we saw on Tuesday was the normal functioning of democratic institutions,” he added.
