“Chega will have to suspend and reschedule the World Right Summit, which was scheduled for May 13 and 14,” the Chega leader said in a media-released video recorded in Budapest, where he is attending the Conservative Political Action Conference, an initiative representatives of far-right parties and a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
In the video, Andre Ventura justified his decision on what he says is “the harassment suffered by some of the top guests involved in manipulative manoeuvres.”
“Out of respect for many of these guests, especially North Americans, and recently former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and his entourage, who were prevented from leaving by the decision of the Brazilian state, Chega decided to postpone the summit to a later date,” it said.
André Ventura criticized “the spirit of aggression, conditioning and menace that prevails in some countries” and expressed “outrage and surprise at the surgical attack, focused and coinciding with the date when many of them will go abroad, to Lisbon.”
“We are going to organize it again with greater strength and firmness, because we know that the future is not socialism, the future is the right to govern our peoples with respect for their identity, their traditions and promote growth and prosperity. what our citizens are waiting for,” President Chegi said.
The “World Summit of the Right” was to be held at the Lisbon Congress Center. Tickets cost five euros for party members and 10 euros for non-members.
The agenda for the initiative has not been disclosed, but former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini were expected to attend, Chega president said.
The party also indicated on its website that Mark Ivanyo, the executive director of the Republican Party for National Renewal, MEP Gerolf Annemans (Identity and Democracy, Chega European Political Family) confirmed their presence, as well as members of the Fidesz parties (Hungary), Vox (Spain), EKRE (Estonia) and AUR (Romania).
