This Thursday, Livre defended that the president of the republic should have called the parties to Belém, and the PAN asked the prime minister to carry out “deep reform” in the government to end the moment of “high political upheaval”.

Reacting in Parliament to Marcelo Rebelo de Souza’s appeal to the country, Livre’s sole deputy Ruy Tavares stated that although the President of the Republic had taken “necessary steps to avoid deepening the political crisis”, he should have listened to the parties in Bethlehem.

“The President of the Republic could, and he did not, unfortunately, convened the parties in Belém, because, going to Belém, Livre would have said that there is a plan to get out of this crisis and that this plan is going through Parliament,” said Ruy Tavares .

MP Livre believed that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa had made a “declaration of wisdom and responsibility”, but defended that “it is impossible to continue the political crisis on a slow fire”, which, in his opinion, “is born and sustained in the government”. and the Government.”

“The government cannot blame the opposition, external inflation or war for this political crisis. It originated exclusively in the government, but in order to get out of this political crisis, the government must take steps, and the President of the Republic could also take more steps,” he said.

PAN leader Inés Sousa Real believed that Marcelo had to go “further” to ensure “reform in government”.

“What Portugal and the country needs is the implementation of structural reforms, as well as responsibility, commitment and a sense of the common good, which clearly did not exist in this episode and did not exist in recent months, which led to an absolute majority, to a situation of high political instability “, the PAN spokeswoman defended.

The only PAN MP also stated that “what happened on the part of the government was serious, not only in terms of trust in political power, institutions, but also in terms of the responsibility that should exist with what happened to Minister Joao Galamba” .

“Unfortunately, we have not seen either António Costa or Joao Galamba take on the same responsibility. On the other hand, the President of the Republic meets the concerns that PAN has already noted, namely stability for the Portuguese and the continuation of this episode, Portugal’s interests are above political interests,” he added.

The President of the Republic promised this Thursday that he would be “even more attentive and more involved in daily life” to prevent conflict factors that degrade institutions and “avoid the exercise of exclusive powers.”

In an address to the country from the Belen Palace in Lisbon, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said he did not want to use the powers given to him by the Constitution to interrupt governance, but stressed that he would not give them up.

The head of state called his disagreement with the Prime Minister’s decision to keep Joao Galamba as Minister of Infrastructure “a fundamental difference” and considered that this decision by António Costa affects “the trust, reliability, authority of the minister, the government and the state.”
