Parliament leader Chega said Thursday that the president of the republic should have had the “political courage” to dissolve parliament and call elections, saying the government is “in tatters” and the country “needs stability.”
Speaking to reporters in the Assembly of the Republic after Marcelo Rebelo de Souza’s statement to the country, Pedro Pinto said the government was “totted, smashed to pieces” and “doesn’t inspire confidence in the country.”
“Portugal needs stability, there is no doubt about it, but stability must come with elections,” he said.
Pedro Pinto said it was “not surprising” that the President of the Republic did not dissolve the Assembly of the Republic, but defended that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa “should have taken this step, he must have had such political courage”.
