Some fifty Ukrainian citizens demonstrated this Sunday in front of the Russian embassy in Lisbon, calling on the Portuguese parliament, like Ukraine, to recognize Putin’s “Russism” as a new “totalitarian and misanthropic ideology.”
At the protest action, which was attended by men, women, adolescents and children living in Portugal, a circle formed around the President of the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal Pavel Sadohi, who explained to those present about sending a letter to the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic with the aim of approving and recognizing the so-called Putin’s “Russianism” as an ideology of a totalitarian and anti-humanistic nature in its ideological foundations and political practices.
In a resolution dated May 2 last year, the elected representatives of the Ukrainian people want the international community to recognize Russia’s state policy as “a set of dangerous and destructive ideas aimed at undermining the international order and its principles, namely the recognition of equality and sovereignty.” of all States and the primacy of human rights”.
The resolution of the Ukrainian parliament also calls on the United Nations, the European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, as well as governments and parliaments of foreign countries to condemn “Russianism” as an ideology and political practice .
At the demonstration site, some people displayed posters alluding to the “shame” of the Russian war and Putin’s “terrorist state”, while others displayed enlarged photographs of war crimes, with charred civilians, cars and corpses in the middle of the road or sidewalk. Ukrainian settlements.
Speaking to reporters, Pavlo Sadokha said that on May 8, Europe is celebrating the end of World War II, taking the opportunity to remember that “eight million Ukrainians died” in that war, contributing to “riding the world of Nazi ideology.”
“Now, in the 21st century, we have another ideology that threatens not only Ukraine, but the whole world, this is “Russianism”, Putin’s totalitarian ideology.”
Pavel Sadokha said that he had already sent a letter to the Assembly of the Republic with a request to recognize “Russianism” as an “inhuman and hateful ideology”, thus accompanying the understanding and resolution of the Ukrainian parliament, at a time when we are witnessing the genocide of the Ukrainian people, the murder of children and the rape of women on Ukrainian territory.
Asked if there is hope for peace in the conflict, Pavel Sadokha replied that Putin’s policy is against peace and that his regime calls the invasion a “holy war.”
After announcing a request to the Portuguese parliament in front of the Russian embassy, the demonstrators unfurled a huge flag with the colors of Ukraine and peacefully marched towards Clube Estefânia, where a pro-Russian organization is promoting a concert, in order to stop demonstrating your displeasure with the existence of Russian propaganda in Portugal abroad. Pavel Sadokha assured journalists that this protest would be peaceful and only serve to express indignation.
