Left Bloc coordinator Katarina Martins this Monday expressed regret that the government is doing “absolutely nothing” to solve its internal problems or provide answers to the country, and insisted that the infrastructure minister was “not trusted”.

“The government is doing absolutely nothing at the moment: it does not solve its internal and institutional problems, is not able to respond to people’s lives, and I think this is the country’s biggest problem,” Katarina Martins told reporters at a press conference. neighborhood of Casal do Gil in Lisbon, where residents are receiving eviction orders.

The leader of the Bloco de Esquerda (BE) argued that “the government remains discredited, not only because of various scandals in various ministries, but also because of the inability to provide a political response in such important areas.”

“I remember that the school year is ending, there is still no solution for teachers. The next school year promises not to have enough students for students because teachers are retiring and leaving public school because they are angry – and rightly so – and there is no solution,” he said.

Katarina Martins also said that the judicial year is “successively stopped and delayed because justice officials have no solution,” adding that both housing and health problems are “getting worse.”

Alluding to tensions between the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic over Infrastructure Minister Joao Galamba, Catarina Martins expressed her regret that last week “not a single problem was solved either in the country or in the government.”

Regarding the specific case of Joao Galamba, the BE leader believes the official has “two problems”, starting with one that highlights his “lack of trust”.

“When a minister is not trusted, he loses democratic legitimacy and loses dialogue with those sectors with which he has to dialogue to solve the problems of the country. This is a serious problem,” he stressed.

On the other hand, Katarina Martins believes that the Minister of Infrastructure also has the problem of “lack of concrete answers in the areas” he manages.

“Look: from CP to TAP, to the airport, we continue with numerous problems and no one knows what Minister Joao Galamba thinks about any of these problems,” he stressed.

Asked if she believes that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa does not have “a hand in the government”, Catarina Martins replied that the President of the Republic “has been in a difficult situation ever since he decided to shake hands with António Costa” in “a number created to carry out early elections and the granting of an absolute majority of the PS.

“I think there are many people in the country who regret this absolute majority. The president of the republic is certainly one of them,” he said.

When asked if she believes that if elections were held, the PS would win with an absolute majority of votes, the BE coordinator replied that nothing would be won, “if every day we talk about a situation that depends only on the government and the president of the republic.” . . .
