Lula da Silva has lunch with Brazilian businessmen at a restaurant in Lisbon The head of the Brazilian state was met by supporters at the door of the restaurant.

Brazilian President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva dined with Brazilian businessmen in Portugal this Friday at a restaurant in the capital Lisbon, being greeted by supporters at the establishment’s door.

Lula da Silva arrived at the Figo Maduro military airport in the afternoon and left with the official delegation at 12:40 for lunch. After that, he went to the hotel, from where he should go to the Belen Palace, where at 17:00 he will be received by the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

Later, at 20:00, Lula da Silva will be received by Portuguese Prime Minister and PS leader António Costa, who has declared his support in the last days of the Brazilian election campaign.

The President-elect of Brazil is visiting Portugal upon his return to his country after attending the 27th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27) in Egypt.

A meeting with supporters and leaders of the Brazilian community in Portugal is scheduled for Saturday.

According to Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho, the fact that Lula da Silva has chosen Portugal as the first country for a bilateral visit is a “very strong signal”.

“We believe that by choosing Portugal as the first country for a bilateral visit after his election, he [Lula da Silva] sends a very strong signal and we will tell Lula when he comes here that the Portuguese side will fully comply with this strong signal,” Minister Luce said.

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the presidential election on October 30 with 50.9% of the vote against 49.1% for the current president, Jair Bolsonaro, who ran for a new four-year term.

Lula da Silva will again become President of Brazil on January 1, 2023 for a third term after he led the country from 2003 to 2010.
