Marcelo and Costa are back together, but without complicity

Far from the great complicity they usually show at international events, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and António Costa were together this Tuesday for the first time since the institutional conflict motivated by the refusal to resign the Minister of Infrastructure. The President and Prime Minister joined the King of Spain at the Convent of Juste in Cáceres to present the Carlos V European Prize to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

At the ceremony, which was attended by 21 ambassadors to Spain, Marcelo and Costa avoided journalists and avoided each other. From formal photos where they posed with King Felipe VI and António Guterres between them, to informal outings where they didn’t walk side by side, Marcelo and Costa didn’t exchange smiles, and the tension between them was quite evident. Already in Strasbourg, Marcelo refused to speak on the subject.

“I will not comment on this issue now. You covered the events as before, you have images and you know what happened,” he said.
