Montenegro accuses PS of victimizing and undermining the work of the investigation commission of the TAP

The leader of the SDP accused this Wednesday in Leiria of the PS of persecution after the departure of Jorge Seguro Sánchez as president of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the political guardianship of the administration of the TAR and of not helping to get the job done.

“Instability in the commission of inquiry, in particular, manifests itself in the, I must admit, difficult to explain change of the chairman of the commission in the process of victimization, which sincerely does not contribute to the progress of the work,” Luis Montenegro said before meeting with youth at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria to talk about housing.

Faced with the words of socialist Eurico Brillante Diaz, who this Wednesday accused PSD MP Paulo Moniz of attacking the honor and reputation of the chairman of the commission of inquiry of the TAP, socialist Jorge Seguro Sánchez, the social democratic leader, affirmed: “This is a process of victimization that is a pretext for bad pay, for making the schedule of hearings unfeasible, for preventing access to information, some of which was even decided by the committee itself.”

“What seems more and more obvious to me is that where the socialist party enters, it causes instability. Today we have instability within the government that has been building up for months. In Portugal, we have institutional instability in the relationship between the government and its President of the Republic. and now we also have instability in the parliament, because this instability is created by the PS,” he added.

According to Luis Montenegro, the PS is “doing something that contradicts what the general secretary of the party” António Costa says, who stated that “the truth must be revealed and established, regardless of who it harms.”

“It seems that when pain approaches the realm of government, the search for truth runs into obstacles. There are obstacles in the available documents, in the hearings, in this instability and in this cloud to see if it can distract the Portuguese from what is happening in the commission,” he said.

Socialist MP Antonio Lacerda Sales will lead a commission of inquiry into TAP following the resignation of Jorge Seguro Sánchez, the PS parliamentary group said on Wednesday.

Montenegro also commented on the statements of Minister Joao Galamba, who this Wednesday said that he had nothing to add to the statements he had already made about the process of resigning his deputy Frederico Pinheiro.

“I myself have already had the opportunity to ask both the Prime Minister and Minister Joao Galamba about what happened last week, because this minister resigned,” he stressed.

Luis Montenegro recalled that Joao Galamba explained his resignation “in writing”, where “arguments such as the need for institutional calm, preserving the dignity of himself and even his family” were given.

“If these arguments were presented with the truth, if they were not made up, then I don’t understand why the minister should not be consistent and ask to leave not only not to accept the resignation, but also to hold this duel on arm wrestling with the President of the Republic, breaking what has always been a relationship of cooperation and institutional cooperation that has taken place in recent years,” he concluded.
