According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), more than 40 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Santarém, Leiria, Coimbra, Viseu, Guarda and Bragança pose the highest risk of rural fires this Friday. .
More than 80 municipalities in Faro, Beja, Évora, Lisbon, Coimbra, Leiria, Santarem, Viseu, Portalegre, Castelo Branco, Guarda, Vila Real and Bragança are at very high fire risk.
IPMA has also placed several councils in all areas of the mainland at high fire risk.
The fire danger defined by IPMA has five levels, from minimum to maximum.
Calculations are made based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and precipitation over the past 24 hours.
This fire risk will remain high until at least Tuesday.
Since the beginning of the year, 2707 fires have already affected 7723 hectares of rural areas.
IPMA predicts cloudy to clear weather this Friday for the continent, intermittent afternoon rain in the inner north, moderate winds from the north quadrant, strong and gusting up to 80 kilometers per hour, on the west coast, in the western Algarve and in the highlands, as well as a slight decrease in the maximum temperature.
The minimum temperature will range from 6 degrees Celsius (in Braganza) to 17 (in Faro), and the maximum will be from 19 (in Guarda) to 31 (in Faro).
