The SDP leader reiterated this Friday that the party will demand a consistent review of the euthanasia law if passed by the President of the Republic, leading to its review by the Constitutional Court (CC).
“The text will be approved, approved by the President of the Republic. If this law is promulgated and comes into force, the SDP deputies will not do without their ability and ability to demand a consistent review of this legislative act, in the context of freedom, in which everyone will conduct their own analysis, as well as legally examine the issue,” said the SDP chairman in a few hours before Parliament approved the decree.
A re-review request does not suspend the entry into force of the law, unlike a preventive review, but may stop it if the TC deems it unconstitutional.
The euthanasia diploma, which was vetoed by the President of the Republic, was approved by a total of 129 votes in favor, now forcing the head of state to make it public.
According to the Constitution of the Republic, in the face of the right of veto, the Parliament can approve the text by an absolute majority of the current deputies, 116 out of 230, in which case the President of the Republic will have to promulgate the text. diploma within eight days of receiving it.
Defending the holding of a referendum before the approval of the document, Luis Montenegro expressed his regret, “deeply regretting that the Parliament and its majority, not only, but above all the majority made up of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, were not open to approving the obligation to take a step that, as rightly said by the President of the Republic, is of great importance with the contribution of the political will of the people”.
The SDP leader also criticized that “the legislative process itself was zigzag”.
“The parliamentary leader of the Socialist Party has many habits of throwing stones at others that fall on his feet. If there is a party that has zigzagged, it is the Socialist Party, which already had three or four laws and faced rulings from the Constitutional Court that declared the legislative solution proposed by the Socialist Party unconstitutional.
Montenegro also lamented the “iron will to also want to pass laws in a hurry”, therefore, he believes, “for the sake of certainty and legal certainty, it is good that there is a decision of the Constitutional Court on this issue.”
