Sweden wins Eurovision. Portugal is in 23rd place.

Sweden won the 67th Eurovision Song Contest this Saturday with the theme “Tattoo” by Loreen with 583 points. The 26-country competition was held in Liverpool, England due to security concerns over the war in Ukraine, the country that won last year’s competition and is traditionally expected to host the festival.

Sweden’s Loreen already took first place at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012 with the song “Euphoria”.

Mimicat represented Portugal with the theme “Ai Coração” and was the second to take the stage in the grand final, placing 23rd in the competition with only 59 points.

In 2nd place was Finland (536 points) with the theme “Cha-cha-cha” performed by Kääria, ahead of Israel (362 points) with Noah Kirel, who performed the theme “Unicorn”.

This is the seventh time Sweden has won the Eurovision after triumphs in 1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012 and 2015.

Thus, the competition will return to Sweden in 2024, 50 years after the first victory with the ABBA theme “Waterloo”.

To date, Portugal has failed five competitions (in 1970, 2000, 2002, 2013 and 2016). Between 2004 and 2007 inclusive, as well as in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2019, Portugal failed to reach the final.

Portugal won the competition for the first and only time in 2017 with the theme “Amar pelo dois” performed by Salvador Sobral and written by Luisa Sobral. After the victory, Lisbon hosted the competition the following year.
