Farmers can apply for a global compensation of 180 million euros

From this Monday, farmers can apply for support in connection with the increase in production costs totaling 180 million euros, confirming on the IFAP portal that they intend to receive this assistance, the government announced.

“From today, farmers can take advantage of an exceptional and temporary measure of compensation for increased production costs for agricultural and livestock activities without the need to apply,” the Ministry of Agriculture and Food said in a statement.

To do this, they must access their reserved area on the Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Finance (IFAP) portal and confirm by May 26 that they intend to receive this assistance.

According to the same note, support is also available for colored and tagged diesel and green electricity “to be paid in the coming days” and confirmation is not required, given that the measure is already in place in 2021 and 2022.

This assistance, which is provided under a price stabilization and reduction pact signed between the government, the Confederation of Portuguese Farmers (CAP) and the Portuguese Association of Distribution Companies (APED), has a total of about 180 million euros from the state budget (OE).

Of this amount, 140 million euros are allocated to compensate for the increase in factors of production, and 39 million euros are distributed between the support of non-ferrous and labeled diesel fuel and green electricity.

“Since it was support from the state budget, the approval of the commission was required. [Europeia] avoid restrictions in terms of the domestic market. We got them to do it in record time so that we can pay quickly, helping to support farmers in the face of inflation and consumers to stabilize prices,” Agriculture Minister Maria do Heven Antunes said in a statement.

A government official assured that this assistance would reach recipients in the coming weeks, stressing that it is “very important” that all farmers fill out the support acceptance form available on the IFAP portal.
