The government announces a tender for IT services on the bodycams platform

This Monday, the government launched a tender for the acquisition of computing services of the portable camera platform for individual use, planning to invest 749 thousand euros in the operation, with PSP and GNR receiving the first “body cameras” in November.

The announcement was published this Monday in Diário da República by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of the Interior (MAI) as part of an investment funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and determines the execution of a contract valid for three years. years for system computing and data protection services.

Interested parties have 33 days from the date the announcement was posted (May 11) to submit a proposal, with a deadline of mid-June. Proposals must be kept for four months after the end of the application deadline for the Unified Video Security Platform.

The Police Body Camera Acquisition Program was unveiled on April 27 at MAI where MAI General Secretary Marcelo Mendonça de Carvalho explained that around 10,000 body cameras will be purchased by 2026, the number was based on a survey conducted by each security service and namely 5,500 by the Public Security Police and 3,193 by the National Republican Guard.

Marcelo Mendonza de Carvalho said that an open tender for the purchase of “body cameras” will be launched in June, with the first 2,500 cameras to be delivered in November, another 2,500 in 2024, and the remaining 5,000 cameras to be distributed by 2026.

On this occasion, Minister of the Interior José Luis Carneiro called the use of “body cameras” by the police “an important step towards improving the operational activities of the GNR and PSP, protecting law enforcement officers from allegations of alleged illegal use.” forces and protect citizens from possible actions that violate their rights, freedoms and guarantees.

Also at the end of April, another international public tender was announced for the amount of 1.48 million euros for the acquisition of a platform that will store information, images and sounds collected by handheld cameras for individual use.

The platform will have as a requirement the ability to centrally manage all types of equipment related to video surveillance equipment, namely “television cameras” and municipal video surveillance systems, as well as connect to remote systems installed in nightclubs or advertising centers.

The Decree-Law regulating the use of handheld cameras by police officers for personal use was published in January in the Diário da República.
