The Emilia-Romagna Formula 1 Grand Prix scheduled for this weekend in Imola in northern Italy has been canceled due to flooding that has affected the region, race organizers announced this Wednesday.
In a statement, F1 explained that they had moved on to canceling what was to be the sixth World Cup after meetings with local authorities and the Italian government, concluding that the necessary safety conditions had not been met.
“It is not possible to hold an event with the necessary security for fans, teams, and staff. This is the right and responsible decision in this situation. This will not be additional pressure on local authorities and emergency services in an already very difficult time,” F1 specified.
