The Union of All Educational Workers (Stop) announced a new strike this Thursday over June’s assessment tests and will sue at least one case of “violation of the right to strike.”
“We want to clarify what you said on the 15th. [de maio] minister [da Educação]: Education professionals want justice. We don’t want career bottlenecks, we want non-teaching staff to also have the right to decent wages and careers for all, and so we will continue to fight,” he said.
At a press conference held at lunchtime outside the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra, André Pestana said that the comparative test strike was scheduled for the 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 15th and 20th. June.
“Before announcing [a greve]it became known that many parents were even going to refuse to transfer their children, because they think, in fact, that this has no end, and that it is also a struggle to condemn that priorities are changing,” he added.
In his opinion, it is necessary to invest in health care and education in particular, as well as in its specialists, and “not in dubious cases.”
André Pestana also told reporters that “violent attacks on the right to strike” continue to be seen, in particular those promoted by Stop.
“We already have evidence that, for example, the chairman of the national examinations jury emailed the principal to actually replace teachers who are on strike, which is clearly illegal,” he stressed.
Stop also assured that it was aware that at the Vila Pouca de Aguiar Group of Schools in Vila Real, “the principal said that the DGEST had given the order to replace all the striking teachers.”
“This is clearly very serious and violates the right to strike,” he said.
According to André Pestana, on May 15, Stop informed the Minister of Education about these “hijackings” and was asked to “investigate”.
“We have already sent the evidence we have to the minister and we are waiting for him to clarify for us. But, regardless of the answer of the minister, we will face justice in at least one situation where we have evidence,” he said. concluded.
