The leaders of the world’s seven most industrialized countries (G7) rejected this Saturday the use of “weaponized” export power and the use of “economic coercion” as a political tool in a statement aimed at China.
“We will work together to ensure that attempts to weaponize economic dependence by forcing G7 members and our partners, including those with small economies, to comply and adapt, fail and face consequences,” the bloc said in a statement.
Members of the G7 meeting at the summit in the Japanese city of Hiroshima expressed concern at the “alarming increase in cases of economic coercion aimed at exploiting vulnerabilities and dependencies” and called on all countries to refrain from such practices.
