Environmental activists dump black liquid on the Trevi Fountain in Rome. Police escorted young people from the scene

Seven young activists painted the water of the Trevi Fountain in Rome black. Environmentalists sprayed the black liquid to protest the use of fossil fuels before the authorities removed them from the site, the publication reported. Reuters.

The demonstration of young people was booed by several tourists who watched what was happening at the symbolic monument of the capital of Italy. Young people from the group “Ultima Generazione” (“The Last Generation”) held signs saying “We will not pay for fossil fuels” and “Our country is dying”.

The mayor of Rome was outraged by the attack on a historic monument. “Enough of these ridiculous acts against our artistic heritage,” he wrote in twitter.

The protests are taking place at a time when floods are hitting Italy’s northeastern region. Bad weather resulted in the death of at least 14 people and more than 36,000 displaced people.
