Casey Rivara, 41, died after being hit by a car on Thursday in Rocklin, California, USA, moments after helping a family of ducks across the street.
According to BBC newsPolice said the man exited the car he was driving to ensure the safety of the ducklings. Moments later, he was hit at an intersection by a teenage driver heading east on Stanford Ranch Boulevard.
The victim was walking home with her children who were swimming when they spotted “a mother duck and ducklings trying to cross a busy intersection,” according to an online fundraiser set up by members of Casey Rivara’s family.
“Casey was the kindest, most wonderful husband and father. Even his last act in this world was a sign of compassion,” the fundraising campaign reads.
The crash was seen by several people, including Summer Peterson’s children. “They were like, ‘Oh, that’s so cute. That’s so cool of him.” And then suddenly he was hit by a car, ”said the woman. Several people left flowers and rubber ducks at the crash site in memory of Casey Rivar.
The Rocklin Police Department is investigating the crash and has yet to make any arrests. However, it has already become clear that the teenage driver is unlikely to face criminal charges.
