The National Health Service (NHS) will hold meetings with private and public organizations to conduct childbirth, prevent the impact of summer and carry out work in some maternity hospitals, the health minister said on Wednesday.
“This measure is part of what the SNS Executive Board is doing to prepare for the summer in the context of the usual difficulties of the summer and in the context of carrying out very important work in some public maternity hospitals,” Manuel Pizarro told reporters on the sidelines of the conference “The Strategic Value of the Generic Pharmaceutical Industry” and biosimilars”, which is supported by the Portuguese Association of Generics and Biosimilars (APOGEN).
The government official recalled that at the beginning of this year, 30 million euros were allocated for the retraining of maternity wards in almost three dozen state maternity hospitals.
“These works are very important, they will make services better, more convenient, with better equipment, but they will also cause restrictions,” he said, stressing that the Executive Board is preparing this whole process “with planning and predictability and will be in the coming days” about the plan.
The Central Directorate of Health published this Wednesday in the press an announcement about the opening of a compliance procedure for the supply of SNS users by private individuals or the social sector in the Lisbon area and Vale do Tejo. to respond to “exceptional and temporary needs”.
According to the announcement, individuals or organizations in the social sector “duly qualified” to provide health care in accordance with the law, with an institution located in the area corresponding to the health region, can apply for new conventions to supply social media users from Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, which on average have at least 700 children a year.
Asked by Lusa this Wednesday morning about the reason for this possibility, the Ministry of Health said the process is part of “preparing a formulated response in the coming months, preventing the impact of the summer, and carrying out work in some maternity hospitals.”
